Couples Therapy

People post on Facebook that they married their best friend 20 years ago and would do it all again!

At wedding ceremonies, sweet nothings and vows generate a cynical reaction – and then there is guilt for the negative thoughts.

Horrible thoughts invade, like wishing for a natural disaster or car accident to ‘take care of things’ for you.

Impossible to journal in case anyone found the truth in your writing.

Trapped. Hopeless. But still together… asking why.

Trying to navigate the often-rough waters of relationships very rarely can be done alone . . .

at least without a personalized navigation system. The combination of two different attachment and intimacy styles, along with our histories of relationships and experiences, added to beliefs and opinions and personalities . . . well. . . let’s just acknowledge that this can create an interesting storm.

Let me offer you a life float to hang on to . . .

Couples Therapy can at least provide a shelter from the storm where you and your partner can experience safe and effective communication. (We try to keep the therapy space free and clear of torrential winds, because as we know, not much gets solved in that environment.)

We need to be heard and understood –

not always agreed with. If we could choose one person in the world to understand and care for us, it typically would be our partner. When that doesn’t happen, we become vulnerable to finding connection elsewhere, often unhealthy avenues.

Intimacy, Communication and Connection can be created!
